diaspora by dj smoke
the word diaspora in a classical sense refers to an exodus and a resulting new paradigm. the african diaspora refers to the world created by the exodus from africa by africans. a diaspora is a leaving of the nest … or the spreading of the seeds to the winds like a dandelion. the word contains an essential duality between the old and the new. the diaspora mixtape is about duality. old and new. roots and influences. sounds mixing and playing off each other to create new landscapes and new understanding. and throughout is the fruit of the african diaspora pushing music from jazz to rnb to soul to hip hop and influencing all music. and although often painful, diaspora creates new horizons.
