winning hand by zac hendrix
“winning hand” is an example of what can happen when you combine the ability to multi-track record with a ferociously dedicated hip-hop/funk dj like zac hendrix (dj for del the funky homosapien, bukue one, all flags burn). the line between “mixtape” and “concept album” gets a little more blurry than you might expect. zac’s original intent was to make a b-boy practice mix in order to give some of his more limber friends something good to dance to…but things got out of control, as they often do. exhibitions of scratching, mixing, and beat-digging on this level rarely happen all in the same place. this is funky, drum break-laden ear candy at it’s finest. with more than 300 original records used (no serato), this monster clocks in at just over 74 minutes
