From: fro-disia@hotmail.com To: fro-disia@hotmail.com Subject: Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 19:48:20 +0000 Right first thing first. Well you all know that Fro-Disia`s music aim is to promote our wonderful brand of DanceJazz, Jazzfunk, Nu Jazz and Jazz Soul. And from the very first Fro-Disia podcast, (or jazzmix), it has always been our intention to find a venue to playthis music to a discerning crowd of people so they can dance to it. The Hilton Weekender Saturday Afternoon Jazz sessions are proving to be more and more successful every time, and as a result of that success we have found a venue guys and we`ve booked the date. All thedetails are contained on the flyer, see attachment. The first ever Fro-Disia night will be at The City Bar on City Rd, Chester on Saturdaythe 8th of December 2007. Dj`s are yours truly, Mark Grice and Baz Maleady. (Colin Curtis is unfortunately booked elsewhere but he will be on at any future dates. He is and will always be an integral part of this event. Bu the`s a busy lad to be sure). The venue is a bar with 2 rooms and eventually additional events will have soul upstairs and jazz in the basement where it belongs. This initial event will be in the basement and is a mixture of the jazz you have come to associate with `Fro` as well a large helping of our own brand of soul grooves. This needs to be a success guys if there are to be future dates etc. As it is the first event we have negotiated a special rate of free admission with the management.That¹s right FREE, gratis, nothing, nada, no money to get in. (you can buy me and the lads a drink with all the money you will save. Ha). Now the baris open to everyone, it`s not massive so, you wanna get in then come early, you have been warned. No tickets, no deals just get in and come downstairs and dance your little feet off, cus` of one thing I am absolutely certain THE MUSIC WILL BE WICKED. If this works there will be more, it`s up to you. You all asked for it, you`ve got it. The bar islisted on Google maps and if you have a satnav then punch in CH13AE. See you there for that drink you promised me. Can`t wait. For those not able to attend, probably because you live outside of `good old blighty`(that¹s the UK by the way), then here is this months playlist and info. First hereis the link http://subnav.com/?p=86 1 Luisto Quintero - `our love` previously released album `Percussion Madness` produced by Louie Vega has been remixed and re released. He had the absolute good sense to ask a certain Mr Conte to remix this track. What a gem of a cool bossa groove. 2 Metropolitan Jazz Affair - `everybody knows` another cool track from this years `Bird Of Spring` album. Ive got the Japanese edition of course, (kidding, honest) 3 Fabio Nobile - `didn`t you know` Well you all know I love this track and it has caused quite a stir, do we play the original (more jazz ) track or the Frisina remix which is also great.? You have heard the original so here is the Frisina remix. Any chance to play Frisina is cool with me. Gerardo Frisina is my dad you know. !!yes it`s true he called meTony Italain see. 4 Nicola Conte `mambo de los dandies` Gerardo Frisina remix. It`s him again !! absolutely fantastic track from these guys. The original Conte tune from the ground breaking `Jet Sounds` album from 2001. Then, re released fully remixed with this version in 2002. Then just re released again on a Japanese CD this month. You can`t keep a good tune down and it gives me the excuse to put it on the mix. Brill. (He`s my Dad you know) 5 Leo Cesari `Twista Druma`. Remixed by Robert Eno & PaoloScotti (The head of Déjà vu records himself ) 2000 12² release on the Black& White label. 6 Dee Dee Bridgewater - `afro blue`. Just acool jazz tune from one of the coolest female jazz singers ever. She has done this tune before and this is a new version. We like oh yes we like. 7 Victoria Newton. `the real thing`.Right I need a kick I have sat on this record for ages. I forgot about it .DUH. It`s a great Latin version of a Stevie Wonder tune. 8 Studio Apartment - `straightway` Fromthe Japanese 2004 album `World Line`. SA are the house/jazz crossover kings and clearly have a love for jazzfunk as demonstrated by this gem. 9 Lava night in Tunisia`.One of the jazz classic tunes redone on a brand new album from Lava ³El Lava (Lava`s concept ofLatin Jazz)². 10 LiustoQuintero - `el jibarito y el cubanito` another track from Percussion Madness Revisited this time showing Vega`s take for all things Cuban. 11 Soulstance- `loka a bola` Brilliant band and one of the original Schema records artists.Every album is just cool. This track dug out from the great `Lead The Way`album 12 CalTjader - `Tanya`. The late great man himself. I love the prolific Cal Tjader who gave us an enormous amount of quality jazz vibes sounds. Just like Sabu Martinez and Chico Hamilton it`s easy to see where modern artists drawi nspiration from. This track from `Vibraphone Therapy`. Wonderful. 13 Pharoah Sanders `You Gotta HaveFreedom`. The last track or 2 are always ageless quality choices from myself. Mr Sanders is in my opinion one of the greatest people to put a Sax to his mouth and blow in a way only he can. An object lesson on how to make the sax scream out inspirational soul. His first note is awesome. This is one of the greatest jazz tracks ever made. Simple as that. he`s on at the jazz café soon. That`s it enjoy ŠŠŠŠ..you lucky people. By the way of interest is the front cover this month. The top image is a guy dancing you may recognize from the Hilton Jazz sessions Ray. Pictured with Perry Louis .This is a still from some great video footage Andy sent to me of the Jazzcotechdancers doing their stuff in Poland ast year. Love it. Always interested in stuff like that. Feeback always wanted etc. let me know if we will be seeing you in Chester Best Tony.
